Default A. muscaria and Pine trees.

I read somewhere on the web that A. muscaria cannot be grown in
aquariums or otherwise domesticated because it has a symbiotic
relationship with the root systems of Pine trees. Is that true?

The person who wrote that seemed a little uncertain that he was talking
specifically about Pine trees and may have been referring to some other
type of evergreen tree.

Are they ever found not in association with Pine trees? Can they be
grown in aquariums?

"Notes On Amanita Muscaria

Amanita muscaria falls under "Mycorrhiza" - A symbiotic association of
a fungus with the short root tip systems in trees and many other
plants. That's why you only find them under trees. Here in Florida,
they are found under Pine Trees. The two grow together. There has been
some success with using tomato seeds. The roots from the seeds bind
with the mushroom's mycelium causing this mycorrhiza relationship. Last
year I discovered a type of grass which binds with said type mushrooms.
I have yet to find out what species of grass this is, but it forms this
relationship with several types of these mushrooms. In #52 "THE
MUSHROOM CULTURE", The Journal Of Mushroom Cultivation (TMC) Oct. 2001,
Article "Trees And Plants May Choose Their Best Fungal Partner
(Mycorrhiza)", I discuss this growing process. Right now, the best way
to grow Amanita muscaria is to do this outside using pine trees. This
process can sometimes take several years to get going. Go around the
base of the tree and gently dig until you find the tree's small roots.
Place the mushroom's spores on these roots and cover them back up. This
mushroom's mycelium can be easily grown and maintained on Potato
Dextrose Agar (PDA), but will not fruit. If you have any of this
mycelium, put this on the roots. Then you know for sure you have it
growing. Right now I don't want to say any more about my research on
growing Amanita muscaria. We all know how people like to steal other's
work, and then act like they did everything. Also, the main purpose for
this research is not only to grow Amanita muscaria, there are many
types of edibles that are (Mycorrhiza)", and they bring high prices
because the only way you can get them is to collect them from the wild
as they cannot be cultivated. If anyone is interested in reading the

Yeah, many times when collecting these mushrooms you will see the flies
that lay their eggs on them. It is a delicate, more mosquito-like
looking fly. The Ibotenic Acid in them is one of the most powerful
housefly killers there is. Yet, these said delicate flies revolve their
life cycle around these mushrooms. Many times when drying them out, you
will see many dead houseflies around them. Oh, if they are to be used
for extraction purposes....Try to collect the ones in shaded areas and
not out in direct sunlight. Same thing when drying, machine dry do not
sun dry. The sunlight breaks down the Ibotenic acid, and that's what
you want. If you plan to dry them out, don't fart around waiting a day
or two, you are right, maggots will take them over from the said
delicate fly. Many times when you inspect the inside of these mushrooms
you will see these maggots. In this case, I would not even bother.
Ibotenic Acid is also one of the most valuable mushroom compounds there
is. I have seen Sigma sell it for around $70 - $90 a milligram. Did
that hit you? There are 1,000 milligrams in 1 gram...that's right
$70,000 a gram on the low side. Column Chromatography is the simple way
to do extractions at home. Ibotenic Acid is also a flavor enhancer. I
have some chefs in Europe that order them from me. Put a pinch of
powdered Amanita muscaria in the dish when it is cooked and woolaah, it
tastes better, and suddenly

Psilocybin mushrooms possess psychedelic properties. Psilocybin mushrooms (also called psilocybian mushrooms) are fungi that contain the psychedelic substances psilocybin and psilocin, and occasionally other psychoactive tryptamines. There are multiple colloquial terms for psilocybin mushrooms, the most common being magic mushrooms or 'shrooms. And Psilocybe cubensis is a species of psychedelic mushroom whose principle active compounds are psilocybin and psilocin. Psilocybe cubensis belongs to the Strophariaceae family of fungi and was previously known as Stropharia cubensis. The mushroom's cap is reddish-cinnamon brown to golden brown in color with white to yellowish stipe and will turn bluish/greenish when bruised.
