My cat has some shroomies that have gotten kind of large and dropped
their spores. Will they get larger or is that the end of the line.

that's the end of the line
you really don't want them any larger anyway
once the veil break psilocybin production stops
so basically you want to pick them as soon as the veil breaks or just
before for the highest weight/drug ratio
you're only wasting water and nutrients

Not quite true. The psilocybin production doesn't stop. What happens
is that the psilocybin production stays about the same, but the amount
of biomass increases dramatically resulting in a lower total
psilocybin/weight ratio (aka lower potency) at the expense of valuable
resources, notably water, that could have been used to produce more
mushrooms.

Picky, picky, picky.

True

Once the viel breaks, the mushroom grows very little. It's not true
about the weight ratio, the mushroom has stopped growing. As for the
cap opening, I liken it to opening a fist. your hands gets bigger but
not heavier.

Hmmmm... I have a little trouble believing that, but it's been a long
time since I've actually grown anything and I can't think of an easy
way to test the idea off the top of my head since you can't exactly
harvest a mushroom, weigh it, and then put it back to see if it grows
any more.

So it's all an optical illusion, huh?
