my ant farm companions were mixing up some more bags of
50\50 castings mix with crushed oyster sells the other day.
well, they got this brainstorm !
lets save the water! the water that was squeezed out from the casting mix,
that is.
There's nutrients it that water! AWE, watering crystals! HMM
So they saved
The 1-gal of water that was squeezed out of the
7-1\2 cups peat moss,
1-1\4 cup lime,
7-1\2 cups vermiculite,
2cups crushed oyster sells.
Now this is what they did with the water;
they strained the water into a big blow. yes with a strainer.
and added enough watering crystals, to soak all the water up in that blow.
they got very fat indeed.
then they scooped the crystals up and put them into a
RAGU old style pasta sauce mason jars.
they got 8 of them jars out of the above recipe.
then
PC'ed them 15lbs for 45 min.
and then stored them in a cool place.
for later use.
This is what they plan to do with the nutrient rich watering crystals;
They used the Molly tek,
except !
instead of using the wet vermiculite .
they just plan to lay a thin layer of the nutrient rich crystals down
then a very thin layer of 50\50 castings on top of that.
then they graded one rice cake over the hole thing, then they covered over
that all up with some more castings. maybe 3 inches in total.
(they used a kitty litter tub,there are two sizes>> the smaller type sold at
wall-mart)
oh ya, leaving the casting mix outside for two week or more,
really helps allot.
there where tons more product!
then before, when the mix was not put outside.
to grow micro organisms needed to boost shroom growth.
how do I no this you may as.
the ants! they have taken some really cool photos and showed me.
