VERY Rough Translation (by PeoplesMind) :
Title : Police Warn A Fresh Drug Solicitation
In {Nyköping?}, a youth and orphan in healing died from a fatal
preparation of DXM he bought over the internet, it's first victim many
known using cities (where the drug is circulated). His friend found him
and called police. The police don't know weather DXM is illegal or the
internet shops are illegal. According to the internet, the drug is
reported to be like escasty, a good dance drug, and as if it were LSD,
provoke hallucinations. If DXM is mixed with alcohol and
{pharmasucitcals?}, it is more likly to cause death. On Tuesday, a
23-year old died from a mix of DXM with {chum in an sommarstuga?}. ~"We
have not encountered this drug before" says Lars Pack, an {?} in
{Nyköping?}, Sweeden. ~"Many youth are expirementing with drugs, and
finding DXM." No reports of the drug have been made in Sweden before but
there have been international warnings.

Somehow I've gotta find someone who knows Swedish and English
fluently to translate this cleanly. I'm guessing that first death (the
"orphan in healing") may involve pure DXM powder, because they are
mentioning the Internet. The second death of that 23 year old apparently
involved another drug. And if this news report is correct, there must be
some really bad information about DXM on Swedish language drug sites.
DXM is like Ecstasy and a good dance drug? No English language DXM
website worth mentioning says that about it. The only part that is right
is that it DXM is like LSD, by which they just meant "is a psychedelic
drug."
Anyone know the Swedish language equivalent Usenet newsgroup to
alt.drugs? There has got to be plenty of people from Sweden on the
Internet who can translate this. Since I'd like to put this on my
website, that would require a decent translation.

I've sent a translation to your e-mail adress. DXM has become quite popular
here because it's really cheap and it's easy to obtain.

I'm not surprised at all, my guess is that the police / or the media talked
to some militant anti drug organisation and they have no knowledge what so
ever about the effects of psychedelic drugs.
Here are some examples from www.drogfritt.nu :
* Ecstasy causes internal bleedings
* Ecstasy and LSD is stored in the fat cells in the brain, this causes
flashbacks several years after using the drug.
I found a book at the library which this organisation has given out, i
thought i'd borrow it for a good laugh.According to this book even SSRI
substances has become a street drug in the U.S and is now abused like
heroine, with a needle (!!!). The stories about LSD abuse is also very
entertaining / disturbing.
The mix up with E could also be because DXM sometimes has been found in
Ecstasy, according to some internet pages. There aren't any Swedish sites
which has information about DXM, not to my knowledge, if there are any
they're probably on pair with www.drogfritt.nu ....

I just e-mailed you a response to that. How is it cheap and easy to
obtain? Cough medicines in drug stores?

I noticed from your translation the called DXM a "nerve poison." And,
nowhere do they mention it is a cough suppressant commonly found in
legal medicines. Nor do the ever mention the chemical name
(dextromethorphan), but instead always call it "DXM". Sound like they
were both trying to demonize it by using an acronym, and try and hide
the fact this is just an ordinary cold medicine.

No, a web site, like $2 for 1 gram. But of course, DXM disappeard from the
site the same day as the the death was annonced in the news.
The cough medicine containing DXM is a prescription drug here.

Hmm...I seem to recall in Sweden that DXM was scheduled in the pure
form. Is this still the case? That website may have been breaking the
law.

Doesn't the Mac have any decent newsreaders? Google tends to be bad
because posts are slow in arriving. news.individual.net give out posting
privs on a real NNTP server.
