Wasn't aware of this until today when I found this. Nasty things can
happen when people take lots of LSD.
http://www.mapinc.org/propaganda/prohibprop/html/theme_2/e285.htm
A macho challenge between a young man and his friends about who could
take the most LSD led to the death of an 11-year-old Port Alberni girl,
the man's defence lawyer told his trial on Monday.
Roderick Jonathan Patten is facing a charge of first-degree murder in
the July 31, 1996, death of Jessica States, a youngster known around
town because she was always hanging out at a baseball park near her
home. Patten, now 23, is pleading innocent to the charge.
Evidence against Patten includes DNA matches between his blood and semen
taken from Jessica's body and a video-taped interview in which Patten
admits to killing the little girl, Crown counsel David Kidd told the
jury in B.C. Supreme Court in Victoria.
But Patten's lawyer, Jim Heller said Jessica's death wasn't murder.
Heller said his client had consumed too much alcohol, marijuana and LSD
to form the clear intent to actually kill the little girl. Instead the
charge should be manslaughter, he argued.

They tried outlawing alcohol in the US in the first half of the 20th
century for exactly that reason. Alcoholism, and bad things associated
with alcohol abuse, dropped dramatically. Unfortunately, organized crime
became powerful because of Prohibition. The idea didn't work as well as
they hoped. Of course, prohibition of heroin, cocaine, etc. has had the
same problems.

There are no facts here from which to deduce anything. Countless
doses of LSD have been consumed, and this is the first time I've heard
of sexual homicide being the result. Not that it couldn't happen, but
I'm far from convinced that it did.

And what makes you think that people who take LSD commonly aren't
fucktards? The fucktard type is known to abuse drugs.

It is the "insane" users that end up raping and murdering people on
LSD that makes the politicians want to keep it illegal. The idea is to
try and keep LSD out of the hands of the Charles Manson's of the world.
Sure, those people are a very small percent of total users. However, a
worrisome very small percent.

Baloney. The politicians want to keep LSD illegal for the same reason
they keep heroin and cocaine illegal: because they think all drugs are
bad. The politicians actually believe LSD turns people into psycho
killers.

there you go, the drug didn't turn him into a fucktard, he was a fucktard before
he took the drug. no drug will make anyone do anything that they wouldn't do off
the drug. also, if i recall the article mentions he also took alcohol, which is
known to bring out violent tendencies in violent individuals, so more than
likely alcohol is the drug that made him violent, not the LSD.
by the way, anyone knows where this guy got the LSD?

In the US, they tried to outlaw alcohol for just that reason. They
only threw in the towel because of all the violence by bootlegger gangs
Prohibition created. Since violence amongst LSD traffickers isn't really
a concern, prohibition works with LSD. At the moment in the US, the
scarcity of LSD on the streets is one of the few successes of the War on
Drugs.

way you can pin this just on the alcohol.

that supports my view that LSD does not lead to violence. thanks....
what do you have to say about the cocaine and heroin cartels...
plenty of violence, there, right? by your logic, they should be made legal.

i thought it was satanic ritual acitivity.... i dont' really know much about
the manson family, but that's a really rare case... most acid users are laid
back hippie types who sell flowers and play acoustic guitar at street corners...

it's got nothing to do with the war on drugs, there just isn't a market for it.

No, it doesn't. The issue is whether *use* of LSD causes people to
become violent. This may very well be the case. This is independent of
whether or not LSD dealers engage in violence. Main reason why there
hasn't been much violence amongst dealers is that LSD never was that
popular of a drug, and people only use it occasionally. This isn't a
market worth risking your life for in a turf war.
> what do you have to say about the cocaine and heroin cartels...

You are assuming that politicians are logical. Also, the number of
users of cocaine and H is far less than alcohol. Thus, because of the
much bigger alcohol market demand, Prohibition caused a lot more
violence.

This theory of yours actually makes some sense. There is evidence
that in the past many LSD producers thought that producing it would make
the world better. It is possible today that there aren't many people
like that left. Or, it may be that today possible LSD producers just
think idealistic producers from years gone by were deluded and fools.
LSD didn't make the world better. It just got some people high.

i'm talking about the amount of propaganda. they didn't have cable back then
with 90 channels with all of them having anti-drug ads every five minutes...
i have a question about that, what's the point of the commercials? the stuff is
already illegal, are they trying to make the stuff more illegal? isn't it
obvious that if it's illegal, that it means you shouldn't do them?
why not just say, ok kids, you know drugs are illegal, so just obey the law...
why do they make it sound like it's an option to break the law, but that it's up
to the kid if he wants to break it or not, but they're just asking please dont'
break the law? like saying, you don't have to obey the law, but we're asking

I was disputing your "i think today's youth are just more brainwashed
because they're bombarded with propaganda from all fronts." If they were
brainwashed, they wouldn'y smoke pot and use Ecstasy. As for LSD, they
might not want it for reasons other than the propaganda. Perhaps taste
in drugs have changed such that LSD is disfavored. Who ever had a bad
trip on MDMA?

The TV had less channels back then, but we watched those channels a
LOT back then. Anti-drug TV spots aren't new.

Dude, your ignorance is showing.
How can you say "most" acid users are laid back hippies? Have you met
"most" acid users? I'll bet that for every one you've met, there are
a thousand who don't meet your stereotype.

With alcohol the message they try to send is "responsible drinking is
OK, so long as you are 21." Little surprise this isn't very effective
with the under 21 crowd.

LOL. I don't even know what this is supposed to mean. Are you saying
that "the fucktards" are all users who aren't hippies, all the users
you've met, or people who end up being violent while on acid?
You're not only ignorant, you have absolutely no capacity for rational

Where do you live? In the US (Michigan) I've seen ads against teenage
drinking. Although definitely they focus is on drugs other than alcohol.

i also live in the US and i've never seen it. moreover, all the people in
alcohol commercials are young people--they never show old people getting drunk,
just young people playing volley ball or dancing at a club, or what have you...
if it's ok for young people to get drunk, why is it not ok to get stoned, i
don't get it... they're not showing the people in the beer commercial just
having one beer, they're showing them getting shitfaced and partying their asses
off... how would it be different to get stoned and party... i dont' get it...

Fucktard? Fucktard for taking LSD. Listening bitch i'm 47 and when I was
16-19yrs old I did LSD but I didn't do stupid shit or blame my fuck ups on
acid. Too many people like you, no one is respondisble for what they do. You
are the kind of vermin that spews at the mouth, my johnny did, watch,
listened to, heard something and then did it. Well Johnny is probably a
problem child looking for an excuse to blame his fuck ups on and would fuck
something up eventually anyway.
Nice try Fucktard!

I agree, people should be responsible for their own actions, whether
its drugs, alcohal, or what they do while on them. If your going to
dose something be prepared, not a "fucktard".

I think people who use lsd need not to use the word, "fucktard". It makes
us look not so ummm, smart.

I think that is quite an unfair comparison.
How many rapes are committed daily via alcohol? To take one case of a drug
related rape and tar the entire issue is equivalent to saying that cars
should not be invented or driven because it causes fatal road accidents.
