Dog shit would be no good, it has meat by-products. Cow and horses eat
grains.
Remember that cubensis was apparently introduced to the new world by
brahma bulls that were brought over. They carried the spores in thier
digestive tracks.
cubensis do not grow in my area so i've never really been able to
examine them in nature but spores can easily land on the cow paddy,
germinate and colonize in a few days and then fruit. I really don't
think they are growing up from the ground and up through several
inches of cowshit. It's the cow paddy which is becoming colonized,
thats why products such as Blue's Poo and Dung Bros are so popular.
The manure isn't a heating pad, it's the substrate which the mushrooms
eventually grow out of.
