woodlovers black mold

I am new to this...I have started several woodlovers and they all seem to have black mold after I add the wood chips. I start with cardboard and crushed cakes, (layered) after that colonizes fully (no mold present) I add the woodchips, this continues to colonize ok for a about a week then I get the black spots, not sure what I am doing wrong, everything is sterilized (cardboard and woodchips) I don't have any pics, didn't think to take any before I threw them away, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
