Hi all!

I'm new to mushroom hunting and the forum. I took my family out for a hike today in the Kettle Moraine forest here in WI.

We found quite a few mushrooms. I had a lot of fun and so did the kids. We found quite a few of these. Pic below. I believe they are oyster mushrooms, but being a newb I'm not 100% sure.

BTW. Great forum!

Some more from today's hike. It has been raining the last couple of days. :)
These are very flavorful, and I've been getting 10-15lbs each hike. They appear to be a variation of the Chanterelle mushroom.

Location... Washington County Wisconsin.

Could also be Elm Oysters. Elm normally hold its firmness when fries whereas normal oysters tend to get a bit 'mushy'. Elm tastes as bit nutty too. Have fun

Here is a camera phone pic of the chicken mushroom we found on our last hunting trip in Oct.

It was the first time I found one. Very interesting taste and texture.

Those are not chanterelles, you should be more careful IMHO, if you don't know what the ID is.

That is exactly why I grow my own and don't ever go mush hunting...well I will walk in the woods and take pics but I wont pick anything and would never eat anything I found unless I was sure...

looks like collybia maculata, again, did you feed this to your familly or even yourself not knowing the identity?

When they are young they are very much like chicken and oh so good....marinade them and grill them....wow! Nice find! Also, its best to eat the paler outer ring...
