this is going to be my first real "bulk grow". i've successfully grown mushrooms three times before, all were kits using 1 pint of rye as spawn and 3 pounds of composted cow manure. each kit produced three flushes and averaged around 10 grams dried per flush.
i am going to be spawning 3 gallons of spawn ( cambodian ankgor wat ) into 120 pounds of black cow composted cow manure mixed with 15 pounds pastuerized millet. cased with peatmoss pH adjusted with lime.
i will be utilising (3) 32 gallon roughneck totes. each tote has a 65cfm 4" computer fan with proper filters, each tote also has a 6" 5000K fluorescent light operated on 12VDC. i also have an automatic misting system consisting of a 5 gallon bucket, a hydroponic mini pump , also running off of 12VDC, with 3/8" tubing running to 12 aeroponic misters ( four in each tote with them mounted in the corners ). each totes has its own heating pad. all of this runs back to one programmable set of timers (actually its more like a mini computer that has inputs and outputs).
i layered the spawn and the substrate. each container is separated into 5
layers

i just cased yesterday. the mycellium grew more rapidly than in the kits i've tried before. during colonization i had an air exchange rate of once every 2 days with the misters set to one second bursts four times a day. with absolutely no light. its around 84 degrees with 87%RH. when the casing layer is about 90% colonized im going to set a light cycle of 12/12. im also going to bring the temps down to 74 degrees. i have been slowly increasing the air exchange rate to 3 times a day as opposed to the begining of the spawn run which was once every 2 days.
it kinda sucks because i dont have a digital camera but im going to give detailed updates. criticizims and comments welcome. i am hoping to harvest between 2-3 pounds dry.
