I'm SKNO1 and I signed up to this board hoping to get good advice from professionals. I was interested in a simple 6 jar design for my colony. After I sterilize how much brown rice and vermiculite mix should I use and what size jar? I'm just wanting a simple setup. If anyone has some good advice for me I will very much so appreciate it. Also can anyone tell me what would be the best starter spore that is easy to grow indoors? Thank you.:)

use a 1/2 pint jar for canning, 1 pint jars dont colonize well and usually start fruiting before they are finished...any cubie other than PF, PF albino, Albino penis envy or regular penis envy, the rest are easy...

Cool. I just bought my half pint jars and trying to decide on a medium for growing.. How much brown rice flower and vermiculite should i mix in each jar?

well idk for each jar. Use 2 cups of verm, 1 cup brown rice flour and 1 cup water, mix well and fill your jars 3/4 . poke holes in the lids and put a piece of tyvek under the lid. PC for 60 min @ 15psi and let cool for a day. Innoculate and sit on yer hands til they are fully colonized...

Just watch some of the videos first. I think there is one in the tek section or google PF tek videos or go to you tube and typ in "learn to grow shrooms" and you should get a ton of hits. Watch a few of them so you get a good idea. I leave out the 1 inch dry layer of verm and put tyvek under the lid instead because I kept getting contamns around the line. When you take a handfull and squeeze as hard as you can, only a few drops of water should come out...that is how you judge if it is too wet.

I bought spores 101 alacabenzi and innoculated on january 25th. Thanks for the help. If I get any results I will post some pics on here soon. I'm hopin my babies turn white though!

Its been two weeks since I innoculated and im gettin spots a few inches wide. The jars are sealed tight and in a closet, no contams. Do the jars need to be in a warmer spot or do the lids need to be loosened for faster results? So far its looking all good!
