First post, so hi everyone.

Just getting started on my first grow. Have a grow kit with injected spores which is coming on nicely, maybe 80% white. Also building an insulated box for growing the mycelium, with a large coolbox, a reptile heat mat and a room thermostat. Waiting on rye and a pressure cooker in the mail.

Some questions -

1) My jar is almost all pure white, about 4/5ths covered, but I've noticed a small seem of blue. It's not growing - could this be simple psilobin? Or is it likely a contam?

2) I've drilled a hole in my coolbox lid to allow for the electrical flex, but the fit isn't perfect, should I add some tape? There's about a half mm gap.

3) The jar I have is 4/5ths covered round the outside - but looking at the bottom, there's no growth at all inside the substrate. Should it be a solid cake throughout? Or does it just grow on the edge?

Many thanks.

first off, welcome to the board.

for your questions:

the blue is probably just bruising if it is blue, however, there are some blue molds. just keep an eye on it.

what kind of jars are the pf?

usually you do not need to incubate the jars during colonization. room temp is fine.
"hint" grow kits are a rip off! you can gather everything you need for a lot less.

as for the bottom of the jars. the need to be colonized and a lot of times the bottom is the last to colonize. if the bottom gets to 90% colonized then you can birth it and wash off the uncolonized substrate.

generally, most people wait 1 week after 100% colonization before birthing.

Ya, I always wash off what little is left when a jar stalls and then birth it as is so brain is right....just follow his advice, be patient and you will be all good.

Hi, thanks for the info.

I have one kit for the experiment (mycobox), and now moving on to jars and a pressure cooker with rye seed.

The kit has a small plastic pot. The jars I'm using with the rye are jam jars which flare at the top, to lip.

Next question - are the stalks active? Or just the caps?

Anyone here from the UK?

sorry - what is 'pf'?

pf stands for psilocybe fanaticus. professor fanaticus developed the pf tek which utilizes brown rice flower and vermiculite for a substrate. this revolutionized home mushroom cultivation.

in this hobby there are a lot of abbreviations all of which you will learn in time.

some of the few common ones are:

pf
fae (fresh air exchange)
rh (relative humidity)
fc (fruiting chamber)
TiT (tub in tub)

and many more. if you ever have a question just ask
