Hi, here are some photos of my first fully colonized BRF cake, about one week into fruiting. I am growing the B+ strain. Id like to get some reassurance that Im doing everything right. The only strange thing is seeing the mycelium branch out the way it does, while not getting any pins yet (I dont think those branches are pins, are they?). For the past week I have been fanning 3 or 4 times a day using a small electric fan, misting 2 or three times a day a little on teh cake and some on the glass wall of the jar. The temeperature is warm and seems to be adequate for pinning ( I think 70-75). While I am hopeful everything is going according to plan, no pins have grown yet, and with a week into fruiting, my slight worries seem justified. So will someone be kind enough for some suggestions?

(The photos are black and white because this website does not allow for large files....hopefully you can tell what looks like what)

Well I am happy to declare that pinning took place....I will follow up with photos very soon. Thanks for the advice, I guess Ill take it easy with the misting, especially now that the mushrooms are growing.

Yea be carefull with misting the pins, if not carefull it can lead to nasty bacteria and aborts.
I like to squirt a bit of water around the pins, but only when you think it might need a bit of moisture.
All the best.

No doubt. I agree with Dizz. You really shouldn't spray right on the cakes it could prove to be too much humidity. If your fruiting chamber has enough perlite the humidity should be fine. You should definitely pick up a humidity guage. I grabbed a temp/humidity digital gauge at home cheapo for like 7bux. that way when you have good results you can document your temp and hum. and use it for future reference. Glad to hear things are coming along though!
Happy trails! :D
