Hi again folks. I checked on my cooler/terranium and saw that a lot of the white mold was turning black so I dumped the whole shebang and started anew. Am sterilizing substrate as we speak. First time I used permulite cause that was what Lowes carried. Since then, I went to the farmers seed store and got a gigantic bag of vermiculite and am using that. The way I see it, it is worth the cost of a lottery ticket for me to get the right stuff to get the right results and alto I am anxious (I know...rule one is patience) for my crop to bear nice mrooms, its not worth it to go on my first trip with contaminated goodies. Still want to know what to expect as far as smells are concerned. Thanks in advance for your comments.:

Mushies should smell like mushies, if it smells like anything else you want to toss it. If it has a basement smell it has mold....and if yeasty or beerish then you have a bacteria....you'll get it eventually, pick a tek and stick with it or else you'll be like me and waste $600 before actually seeing success....but now everytime I try I get shrooms. We give out free prints to new members at the topia so come buy and we'll help you grow. I wish I could get ahold of this boards site admin cuz I would love to backlink the boards together.:D

Now I know what to "sniff" for when things don't look right.

Whenever you have an issue like that you want to clean the FC well and replace the perlite:D
