You can check the accuracy of your hygrometer in a few simple steps.

Take a small bottle cap, like a soda bottle cap, fill with common table salt then just drip a couple drops of water on the salt so it is moist but not flooded, place the cap along with the hygrometer in a plastic one gallon zip lock baggie and seal it closed.

The wet salt will maintain 75% humidity steadily, if your hygrometer is over or under 75% after sitting in the bag for about 30 minutes to an hour you can plus or minus the difference, if its way off it might be time for a replacement

I don't think that this is that accurate, I mean u could be right but there are too many inconsistencies, I mean there's no way to know the exact amount of water to add to the salt to get exactly 75% humidity. I think if you're using a coiled hygrometer, they will always be pretty accurate give or take 10% max, because the coil will expand the more moister is present in the air, causing the pointer to move to a higher percentage, or will tighten with less humidity present causing the pointer to move to a lower percentage. Again i could be wrong. I'm just saying i trust my coil, and i suppose you could test the accuracy easier by taking it outside and see if it matches the current weather report in your area, but there are lots of variables, so that wouldn't be that accurate either.
