Yes,Sterilized moist vermiculite can be used as a casing.
Cubensis will fruit without a casing....A method prefered by some. :)

NEVER use straight verm to case. I like to do a mix of, 70% verm 20% perfect mix (a mix of perlite and peatmoss found at walmart in a pink bag) and 10% coir. You HAVE to pasteurize it. 150 degrees for 2 hours. Clean your air and all surfaces before exposing your substrate to the open air to case. You should have no problems

Why (Never) use straight vermiculite to case? Not to disagree but am only trying to understand reason for use of the term never.
Example:Figure 340 page 284 Mycelium Running By Paul Stamets.
Although vermiculite limits contaminats and help mushroom form,it is messy and requires extra effort to clean the vermiculite particles and dust from harvested mushrooms.
case or not to case?.....Me smiles.

The Rez tek is straight verm and has produced better canopies than anything next to this guys avatar so I disagree. Plain verm is great and though verm has no nutes the dust on it may. I started putting my casing verm in a bowl and microwave it for 5 min cuz mine boils water in 3. 1/2 the water is gone buy the time it dries. I sqeez it by the handful once and then sprinkle it over the surface. Fahtsters late casing is awesome with verm. You wait til 1st pins apear and their caps turn color and then case. The amount of pins poking through is 4-5x what was there when I cased.
I am using straight verm with great results and this was done by eatualive and is straight verm casing results
um ya verm sucks...these are eat's verm madness

I bounce around other forums but we will help anyone who needs it. As you just saw, misinformation is often presented as fact when it is in fact only Bullsh!t, see? So we will help noobs grow and even supply the spores most of the time....we are doing a Pan Cyan of any variety Grow Off, pan goliaths, etc

Peat and verm I think is what I was told by a professional is what they consider best. I just bought a digital ph tester on ebay cuz you need to buffer it.....but verm is the easiest, not always the best but it can beat many peoples "great casings" hands down...it is more the operator fucking up then the vehical taking you there.
Sorry those are the wrong pics, those have no casings but they looked the same almost...I will post the verm cased Rez effect ones and some are even more filled in. When it started every square inch was covered with clumps of pins...there was no visible substrate at all...friggen amazing

Ya I knew I wasn't out of my mind. This is what you get from straight verm casing.
So unless you want this DONT USE VERM ROTFLMAO!
I made an ass out of myself a couple times as a noob so it is nice to dish it out. It is a good idea to not rule out any variation cuz I didn't care for casings but now I am starting to love em.
Casing with coir/verm is done often but that isn't really a casing since it will colonize the coir...it is just like you added a rez effect layer and fruited without a casing.

All good enough reasons to say verm is fine? It was mockeylock I was looking for not Eatyu which is why I couldn't find it...

I love fruiting naked on bulk poo sub. The first flush is usually great...sometimes I case after the first flush.

Ya, I wish I was as good as the guy who grew these.....
I like the late casing's anyway. The last fush of OR's were all huge and super thick....unlike the 1st. and 2nd
