Growing Cubensis in Soil

Hello everyone! I just recently bought a kit from Homestead book co. It was the A3 ankgor cambodian strain. I got 2 good flushes off of the kit. instead of throwing the kit away afterwards i broke the mycelium/compost and mixed it into 7 lbs. of sterilized miracle grow soil ( i know this sounds like a dumb move but at this point i was going to throw it away anyway, so i figured its worth a shot). the mycelium rapidly colonized the soil. I cased with steilized peatmoss/gypsum mixture.

I am half-way through the first flush and the mushrooms are larger than they were in the kit i bought. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experimented with soil and had good results.

In the past Foaf had been known to case slightly contaminated grain spawn with Potting soil in flower pots to achieve fruitings.;)

I have the same kit and plan to do the same. This is my second kit and all is well. 2 flushes seems light- I added water at the end of the last one and got more flushes and then flipped the chunks of soil and got more. In total I got 9 flushes, but the last 2 were 9 and 4 shrooms. I used a spray bottle and misted the sides of the container itself (used to be a plastic box, but the bag should be OK to mist if you have it).

A few quick questions.

Did you need to add water to the soil, or did you just use it as is?
Also, I am not sure if using prefertilized soil is safe, any opinions?

I read somewhere the soil should be moist enough to hold shape when squeezed in a ball, but not drip water when squeezed. Does this sound right?

I'm thinking I will buy a few pounds of soil and put like 1-3 pounds of soil in tupperware tubs w/ vents cut in it and filters over the vents so Co2 can leave but bugs etc can't get in. Also a dense filter should not let it dry out so quick. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

Last a free drying tip. Use a very large plastic storage bin or tupperware w/ a lid. Put a 10 or so lb box of silica cat litter in it. Use a fine mesh grill on blocks or something to keep 2 inches above the litter. Put shrooms in and close lid. I also have a little plate for the aborts.

P.S. All the above is a description of a dream I had, I am not really growing mushrooms.
