hey everyone! after last batch, my first, i thought id give it another
try... i have 12 tall 1/2 pint jars, yes i know the short ones are
recomended but its what i got. 6 are normal cakes and the other 6 are
double end invitro casing style. the lids on the jars are turned over,
rubberside up and have all been inoculated with eather b+ equador or
oxaca strains. heres my question. first off how does everything sound?
second oxaca mushrooms, are mexi cubes right? the small little ones? i
hope so there my favorite, very visual... the lids are suppose to be
turned over like htat right? and last but not least when doing the
double end invitro casing tek the bottom layer of verm is suppose to
be wet right?
oh yea and before i forget, grain inside a half pint jar with polyfill
through the lid works well right?
sorry aout all the questions but i have to get this right this time

#1 Congrats on the first batch
#2 Jars: Tall, fat, short... whatever as long as it works. I have seen a
thousand posts that all say different things about which jar to use. The
pros use gallons or bags so use whatever you can keep sterile in your
situation. The shorter 1/2 pint jars are very well liked because you can
double stack them in most pressure cookers, the myc couldn't care less.
#3 Double Invitro: I may be wrong about which tek your using but what it
sounds like is actually for spawning not inoculation. Once you have the
fully colonized jar you break it up and then place it between a sandwich of
casing (short version of tek) for spawn running and eventually fruiting. I
would imagine that you will see that you're jars are overly wet, but again I
may be wrong about the tek your talking about.
#4 Mexi Cubes vs. Oaxaca: I haven't ever heard that they are the same but I
don't know. Maybe someone else here can help more
#5 Lids: There are much better ways to handle this. The reason the lids are
inverted is to have a slightly ineffective seal allowing gases to escape
thus lowering Co2. It's done now and you will be well advised to leave it
alone, but in the future try Tyvek and/or polyfill to create a gas exchange
filter, or just buy filters for your jars. Be careful, Tyvek can exchange a
lot of air and can easily dry out your jars.
#6 Grain and Poly: Sure why not... you may have better luck with the same
setup and tyvek instead of poly but again only put a 1/4 hole in the jar
lid. Tyvek can dry things out in a hurry
hope this helps and if I'm wrong on any of these points I am totally open to
criticism. After all, I'm getting all this info from a 3 toed sloth!
