View Full Version : Infected Spores?

Well, all my pots slowly filled up with ugly green shit except for one.

It was fully colonised except for a bit of mould tucked away in a corner, so I let it out, scraped as much of the infected area off as I could and put it in the fruiting chamber.

The green shit is slowly creeping along the bottom of the cake, so I'm hoping some mushrooms will grow out the top before it reaches it.

Now, I know mushrooms grown from contaminated mycelium can be dangerous, but what about the spores from those mushrooms? Since I don't fancy spending £20 on a another syringe.

I'm relatively new to mushrooms growing but I did some extensive research here and there.

If magic mushrooms grow on an infected cake, they'll probably be infected because of the mycelia network providing food to grow. So never take any chance eating those mushrooms, just throw out the cake. You realised that even after scraping off the infection, it came back. It can come back just like when doctors carefully remove a cancer tumor.

Which leads me to the conclusion that spores generated by an infected mushroom must be infected too. I wouldn't take any chance with that neither.

I wonder though what would happen to other cakes which are left in a prolonged exposure to infected cakes. Is there any risk of cross-cake contamination ?

I hope that my reply isn't too late and keep me updated with what happened if you took any action

Have a nice day

For future reference, never eat mushrooms from a contaminated substrate, it isnt worth dying to see if you should or not, second, it does not sound like your spores were contaminated, rather the cause may have been trichoderma, a very common green mold found on cakes and substrates that are not getting enough fresh air, trichoderma is known as the high humidty /stale air mold and plagues many mycophiles everywhere.
